    Sweets and Treats

Sweets and Treats Now that I have mastered Pinterest I’m finally trying some of the incredible recipes. Last weekend was a great success; both desserts turned out scrumptious! The first is from The Sweet Talker. Sweet and Salty Pretzel Tart with Chocolate Ganache and Peanut Butter Swirl To quote any middle schooler  “OMG!” This pie is CRAZY good! The Sweet and Salty blog has already done all the work just click on over for the recipe. Then check this out… Peach Upside Down Cake from Midwest Living My motto is: If it doesn’t have chocolate then it’s not dessert. Peach Upside Down Cake is the exception. Wow! The butter with the brown sugar and…

    Healthy Snacks

One of the reasons I love baking and sweets so much is because it’s a special treat for me. I eat healthy most of the time. Life is all about trying to find that balance. I switch from no sugar to… “I’ll have a large vanilla Blizzard with peanut butter cup and chocolate covered pretzels please!” It’s right up there with Ben and Jerry’s Americone Dream. Go ahead try it! Mmmmmm! Do you hate me now? This is supposed to be a post about healthy snacks. OK. Here’s what I eat most days. Spinach salad Almonds (plain) Apples A vegetarian dinner And these… Mix some chia seeds in Greek yogurt and you have a healthy snack that will…

    Candy Cake

While perusing Pinterest I found a piñata cake. I had to give it a try. Here’s the original version and recipe. Claire K. Creations: Lime & Macadamia Piñata Cake!  I’m not really a cake person. I’d much rather have a big bowl of ice cream but this cake was amazing! Claire’s already done all the work so pop on over to her page for the print-out recipe. It’s yummy! My first idea was to have a Back to School cake. I was thinking something along the lines of having a treasure chest on top and then yellow M&M’s as the gold treasure. The classroom theme could be: You are all treasured in Mrs. Rausin’s…

    Monkey Cupcakes

Monkey Cupcakes These are very easy to make! I saw a picture of the cupcakes in the Wilton catalog and then found the mold at Michaels. I didn’t take the time to use different colored chocolate (yellow and green) but I still think they came out adorable. The cupcakes would be perfect for a party or an added treat with a read-aloud. Perhaps BOBBY the BOLD by Donna Jo Napoli and Eva Furrow. Illustrated by Ard Hoyt. Here’s what you will need. First, make the cupcakes and let them cool. Next, melt the chocolate chips. I used a microwave and stirred the chocolate in between 20 second intervals. Pour the chocolate into the…

    Superman Cookies

Superman Cookies! Friday June 14th is the opening day for Superman! Why is this so important to me? Well, because Christopher Reeve is synonymous with Superman and the Reeve Foundation holds a very special place in my heart. They were a great support to us at a time when I needed to know someone was listening… someone cared. They did. You can read all about it here: Compassion in Action And here: Standing Up for What Is Right Now for the cookies! I took this picture before I started baking. You don’t need the Easy Writer and I had to buy a small tube of yellow icing. If you purchase the bag…

    Heavenly Peach Pops

Heavenly Peach Pops Here is the website that gave Eric the inspiration for his peach pops. CBS New York. Last June we purchased a Zoku. The kids and I had fun experimenting. Eric decided to add a little zing to the pops! Eric made a kid and Krista friendly version without the bourbon and one boozy bourbon pop. I thought the kid version was quite tasty. It’s so quick and easy to enjoy a popsicle dessert with the Zoku. And they didn’t pay me to say that! I’m going to be a little lazy and simply add my pictures to this recipe. If you have a Zoku Quick Pop Maker it only takes twelve…
