    Eric’s Beer Review Part II

This post continues the saga of how I spent one of the best days ever – otherwise known as International Beer Day. Belgium – Ahhh, the holy land of beer. For those that are unaware of the rich brewing traditions of this country, suffice it to say that the Belgian’s brew beer like the French make wine – with incredible enthusiasm and passion. Row after row of incredible beers beckoned me to try them. I wanted to avoid reviewing a beer I already tasted so after much careful thought and some great reviews from Total Wine I settled on the Sterkens White Ale. A white ale is essentially a wheat…

Around The World In Six Beers (Or how I learned to love blogging)

Upon hearing that August 5th is International Beer Day I immediately told Krista I was hijacking her blog and rushed off to Total Wine to get some beers worth blogging about. International Beer Day. I just love the sound of that. It is like a holiday designed especially for guys. The ladies get Valentine’s Day, we get International Beer Day. Everybody wins! This really needs to be a worldwide holiday that everyone gets off. And it should be followed by International Hangover Recovery Day, which of course you would take off for as well. I will personally vote for either presidential candidate if they campaign behind this issue – I…

    Banana Split Icebox Cake Success!

Thank you to The Girl Who Ate Everything for helping show Arielle and me how to make a yummy icebox cake. In case you missed it here’s our icebox cake failure. We didn’t give up. In fact we made two successful icebox cakes. Team whipped cream and team Cool Whip. Arielle and I are team Cool Whip while Eric’s team whipped cream. Kai is team – not going to touch anything fattening. Totally missing out on icebox cake goodness. Something strange happens to boys when they enter high school. My junk food, pizza loving son is counting calories and doing push-ups. I wonder why? Ingredients: 1 box Graham Crackers 3 Bananas…

    Jalapeno Lime Margarita

Here’s a margarita that goes great with quesadillas. First, cut and seed half a jalapeno. Place the jalapeno and lime zest in a glass and add three shots of tequila. Let the jalapeno and lime zest infuse in the tequila for an hour. If you’re not afraid of a little a lot of heat add the jalapeno seeds. After an hour strain the tequila. Roll three limes under the heel of your hand to soften them up. Cut each in half and squeeze the juice into a shaker. Add two shots of jalapeno lime tequila. Try to get most of it IN the shaker. Add two shots of Grand Imperial Orange Liqueur. Add one…

    Epic Fail Cake… the Sequel

Ten months ago, I attempted to make a cake I had seen on the Martha Stewart website. It didn’t go so well. It begins innocently.I see something pretty and say to myself, I can do that. The problem is…  I really can’t. Epic Fall Fail Cake turned out to be one of my most popular posts and worst cakes – until now. The Very Beginning I’m addicted to a TV show on HBO called The Newsroom. Eric and I enjoy Aaron Sorkin’s writing and the acting on the show is brilliant. I’d love to be on the set and watch how the actors practice the rhythm of the dialogue. It’s quick and oh so much fun…

    Hummingbird Beach Cake

Getting stuck in Jo-Ann Fabrics during a storm has its benefits. Arielle and I explored the baking aisles and found a mold for chocolate shells. Soon she had her cake all planned. Introducing The Hummingbird Cake. Arielle remembered making it years ago. I had no such recollection but she she told me it was delicious and she was right. We made the cream cheese icing first. Oh, it’s really good! Go ahead and try not to lick the bowl. It can’t be done. Ingredients: 1 (8 oz.) package Cream Cheese 1/2 Cup Butter (softened) 1 (16 oz.) sifted Powdered Sugar 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract Use a mixer and cream the…
