Walking on the Wild Side
I strolled towards the entrance knowing what was inside, but confident that because of the early hour the room would be empty. One foot in the door and my confidence immediately shattered to a million pieces. People perched on stools, all along the bar, drinking, chatting, smoking, and watching the sports channel. Anxiety crept through my veins with every step. I wanted to turn around and make a dash for my car. I couldn’t. I had volunteered to pick up all the wristbands for Mardi Gras night in the Cape.

Crafting The Perfect Word
Joanna Marple of Miss Marple’s Musings chooses one word every year that will represent what she wants to be or how she wants to live for that year. She’s on her fourth word and I’m on my first. Instead of making resolutions that I may or may not stick to (I still can’t speak Spanish) finding a word with meaning for my life seemed to be a better opportunity for growth.

Happy New Year!
Woo hoo! It’s 2015! I spent the first day of January cleaning out the messiest closet in my house. I have to say it felt awesome and symbolic. I have bags and bags of stuff to donate. Stuff that has been sitting in the closet for years. I realized that I don’t need to set goals for this year that’s kind of like adding more stuff to my already messy closet. I need to look within and see what I’m holding onto. Too much clutter prevents creativity and freedom to be me. I need to let go and enjoy the journey. Oh, what a journey 2015 will be!

Happy Holidays! The Inspiration Behind ELLE & BUDDY
ELLE & BUDDY will be out in March and I’m very fortunate to have a team of people working with me to help get ELLE & BUDDY into the hands of children. For years we’ve traveled with the racing wheelchair and I’ve watched kids and adults gaze at its bright colors, giant wheels, and sleek body. Muza and I have had a lot of fun creating ELLE & BUDDY in hopes of entertaining everyone and giving some information on the history of racing wheelchairs. Of course Muza has also added an extra exciting element to the story. Search for all the geckos and see how many you can find. She’s hid…

Life Lessons From Students
Cheers and jeers erupted throughout the classroom as I read the last two pages of MYSTIC. My emotions were running deep. It had been a long time since I read the ending of my own book. Surprised at my reaction and theirs, happy they were emotionally invested in the story and had opinions on the ending, and teary because the ending…the theme…is about self acceptance and the story hits close to home. I opened up a discussion on why MYSTIC ends as it does, trying to get them to see deeper into the story. This particular class was a high energy class. A mixture of 6th through eighth graders; the most challenging class…
