    Falling Apart

I can’t sleep. I know why. I read until my eyes close and the book hits my forehead. I wake, put the book down, close my eyes, and my mind takes off running. The words bouncing off the walls of my brain like a racquetball – I’m falling apart. The pieces of my life that have fit together for nineteen years are about to come unglued as one little bird gets ready to leave the nest. My life is about to change and I feel like I want to rewind, go back and see precious moments from the past. Did I enjoy them enough? Did I soak in every smile and do all I…

    Epic Fail Cake… the Sequel

Ten months ago, I attempted to make a cake I had seen on the Martha Stewart website. It didn’t go so well. It begins innocently.I see something pretty and say to myself, I can do that. The problem is…  I really can’t. Epic Fall Fail Cake turned out to be one of my most popular posts and worst cakes – until now. The Very Beginning I’m addicted to a TV show on HBO called The Newsroom. Eric and I enjoy Aaron Sorkin’s writing and the acting on the show is brilliant. I’d love to be on the set and watch how the actors practice the rhythm of the dialogue. It’s quick and oh so much fun…

    Having Teens

As I stuffed the last of the nachos in my mouth I remembered that just yesterday I had decided I was going to cut back on my salt intake. Oh well, so much for that. Starting… now… wait there’s one last crumb… okay now – I’ll cut back on salt. At least until I go grocery shopping. These summer days have left me free to write, eat, feel and attempt housecleaning. The feeling part is necessary in order to be a good writer but it can also be painful. The walls of denial come crashing down forcing me to look within. Why am I so scattered? Why am I eating…

    Hummingbird Beach Cake

Getting stuck in Jo-Ann Fabrics during a storm has its benefits. Arielle and I explored the baking aisles and found a mold for chocolate shells. Soon she had her cake all planned. Introducing The Hummingbird Cake. Arielle remembered making it years ago. I had no such recollection but she she told me it was delicious and she was right. We made the cream cheese icing first. Oh, it’s really good! Go ahead and try not to lick the bowl. It can’t be done. Ingredients: 1 (8 oz.) package Cream Cheese 1/2 Cup Butter (softened) 1 (16 oz.) sifted Powdered Sugar 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract Use a mixer and cream the…

    Buddy

May 23rd I was on Facebook and a picture caught my eye. A dog. A very big dog named Buddy and the caption read: The calmest and most well-behaved dog I have ever worked with at the shelter. Our friend Eric Wilson of Square Dog Photography had posted the picture. Buddy – Bloodhound, Mastiff mix I think it was the word calm along with the adorable giant face that stirred something inside me. Instantly, I felt as though he belonged with us. I’m not sure why. I didn’t want another pet. I shared the picture of him on my Facebook wall and told everyone he needed a home… before I took…

The sun will come out tomorrow (maybe)

I’m off to the beach for a few days and it looks like it’s going to rain every day we are there… but that’s okay. I’m just as happy carrying an umbrella and snapping pictures. My next post title could be: Things to do on Ft. Myers Beach in the Rain. Do you know the pressure of packing for a trip? Well, I take it to a whole ‘notha level. In my mind our entire house has to be spotless when I leave. It drives my family crazy! I only notice the dirt on top of the dryer after I have my suitcase packed. Silly. YJnGRuidOXI This sketch makes me laugh. I love…
