    Easter Treats

Arielle and I had to make our Easter treats early this year because this Easter Sunday she’ll be in Boston getting ready for the Boston Marathon! Check out her posts on training for the marathon on NPR. We decided to try making chocolate Easter eggs/nests/baskets. Try being the key word. Here’s where we got the idea: Howdoesshe.com As you can see from the picture we had to do some improvising. The white chocolate was easier to work with than the dark. If you use dark chocolate be sure it’s completely set before popping the balloon. If you’re going to leave the chocolate out on the counter to dry I would give…

2 Family Fun Activities in Ft. Myers, Florida

2 Family Fun Activities in Ft. Myers, Florida All Island Water Sports It can be challenging finding activities all four of us enjoy. After seeing the weekend weather called for one day of rain and one day of sun I set out to find family activities that didn’t include malls or movies. I found two great ones! Vino’s Picasso and a dolphin tour on jet skis at All Island Water Sports. I live with three adventurous spirits. As for me, I prefer to keep my feet on the ground. However, there is one activity I’ve always loved and that’s riding the waves on a jet ski. While the rest of my family boasts speeds above sixty, 23 miles per…

5 Ways to Help Your Child Become a Leader

5 ways to help your child become a leader 1. Be mindful of the messages in movies. I really like how Mr. Stokes pointed out the differences between THE WIZARD OF OZ and STAR WARS in the video above. Our family watched Disney princess movies when my kids were little but afterward I was sure to point out to Arielle the importance of self-reliance and not needing a boy to make her feel whole. I put a lot of effort towards explaining the importance of an education over “happily ever after.” 2.  Teach Compassion. Leaders must have compassion for others. Whenever my kids would come home from school with a problem we’d talk it…

    Healthy Snacks

Healthy Snacks Here are two easy to make nutritious snacks. I’m trying out different recipes to see which ones I like best. The healthy bars are good and the quinoa chocolate drops are great. I’m partial to chocolate. It took me less than an hour to make both treats. I stored them in airtight containers in my fridge and they’re perfect to nosh on in between meals or after a workout. The recipe for the Quinoa Chocolate Drops I found on: Skinnyms.com  Instead of rolling the drops in almonds I used unsweetened coconut. The recipe for the Healthy Bars I found on: Roxanashomebaking.com Enjoy!

    All is well

“All is well.” Esther Hicks My grandmother used to say it all the time. She told me that when she was little  someone would walk down the street ringing a bell calling out, “It’s 12:00-0- clock and all is well!” I miss her. Virginia Keen–my grandmother–my rock. She taught me to think positive and follow my heart. Thank you, grandmom. All is well.   MYSTIC For those that have read MYSTIC now you know where Keen came from. Queen Fredonia (the grandmother) lives in Keen. A bit of MYSTIC trivia. All is well in my world. Arielle is on her way home for spring break. I just had a four hour breakfast…

    Do It Now

Do It Now “One day you will wake up and there won’t be anymore time to do the things you’ve always wanted. Do it now.” Paulo Coelho When Eric travels I indulge in watching movies he refuses to sit through. He calls them, “chick flicks.” They’re some of my favorite films because they remind me of the value of love and life. Last night when I turned on the television, HBO was already playing Trust The Man. It caught my attention because Billy Crudup’s character was a writer obsessed with his eventual death. His fear of dying clouds his view of enjoying life and recognizing what’s really important to him. Immediately, I needed to…
