Imagination And Dumb Ways to Die

Imagination And Dumb Ways to Die There’s a movie I watched several months ago that stuck with me. First, I have to say that I’m opposed to able-bodied actors playing roles that should be given to differently abled actors. I get it–it’s called acting – but actors who are truly paralyzed should have the opportunity to play the roles of paralyzed characters. One day… OK, now onto the film, The Magic of Belle Isle. When the movie began my first impression was not good. The pacing was very slow. I wasn’t hooked right away like the films I’ve been accustomed to viewing. Then, when the story turned to teaching young Finnegan about imagination, it caught my attention. In fact, throughout the movie Morgan…

    Procrastination

Procrastination Writers are often faced with great resistance, otherwise known as procrastination. For me, there is a feeling within that I must write, yet when I sit down at the keyboard suddenly I’m checking email, Facebook and Pinterest before I click to open my manuscript. I learned from watching an interview with Steven Pressfield on Super Soul Sunday that what I’m feeling is resistance and when the pain of resistance becomes greater than the pain of facing a blank page then I’ll get to work. It’s like when I was little and learning how to dive.  I would stand on the edge of the diving board for a loooong time staring at the water – afraid.…

Easy, Inexpensive AND Delicious Homemade Holiday Gift

Easy, Inexpensive AND Delicious Homemade Holiday Gift I wanted to create a homemade gift for the holidays that was delicious and easy to make for a classroom or party. Feeling Inadequate

Feeling Inadequate Yesterday, I tried something new. I went to Vino Picasso to drink wine and paint with some friends. When I arrived I saw a blank canvas on an easel and said, “where are the numbers?” My friends laughed but I was serious. Did they really expect me to paint from scratch? I was worried and rightly so because the only thing I’ve ever been able to draw is a cube. It’s my one and only doodle. They wanted me to paint a Halloween scene. I felt the stress and quickly understood why wine is usually involved. The teacher kept telling us to stand back and look at our painting from…

    Snickerdoodles

I’m back! I spent a week in Charlotte, North Carolina at the most amazing writing workshop. If you’re a writer, I highly recommend Your Best Book through Free Expressions. Silly me, I thought I’d have time to write a post while I was at the workshop. What was I thinking? Every night there was a Craft Chat and even though I didn’t do much chatting – I sat, listened and absorbed until I felt like my head was going to explode. Meeting new people is difficult for me (notice I left out the word very!) but I was lucky enough to be amongst an amazing group of writers that welcomed everyone with an…

    Life is good!

Life is good! After the 75 minute spin class, two batches of snickerdoodles (next post!), packing, editing pictures, laundry, feeding animals, a quick dinner, more packing, cleaning, collapsing in bed, waking before the sun and driving two dogs to the kennel on my way to the airport, I finally feel like the picture–peaceful. I’m in North Carolina ready to attend Your Best Book–Free Expressions Workshop. I arrived at the DoubleTree Hotel and was handed a cookie. Life is good! My family is having fun in Chicago. I’m missing them but happy they are together. Arielle completed the Chicago Marathon in two hours and forty-five minutes! She met her goal and I’m sure they’re celebrating…
