New Year’s Cupcakes
I came home today and Arielle and her friend Chelsea were busy making New Year’s cupcakes. So, I decided my no sugar for a week regimen could be put on hold until 2013. Look at these yummy truffles! They’re trufflelicious! Apparently, all you have to do is place a package of Oreos in a food processor and then mix it with 8 ounces of cream cheese. Melt some chocolate, decorate and… voilà a topping for New Year’s cupcakes. Happy New Year!! Eat lots of chocolate. MYSTIC is coming! MYSTIC is coming! Any day now! Lots of people have been checking out these cupcakes for the New Year too. Enjoy the last weekend of 2012. Here’s to…

Magic Moments of Christmas
“The present moment is all you ever have. There is never a time when your life is not “this moment.” Eckhart Tolle Eric and I strolled the aisles of Target searching for the perfect gifts for Arielle and Kai. Both kids had told us one or two things they wanted for Christmas but were pretty nonchalant about the whole gift receiving tradition. We were clueless, asking each other if we thought Kai or Arielle would enjoy the gadget or goodie we spotted on the shelf. Both of us knowing gift cards were really the way to go but how exciting is opening up a gift card? You can’t play with…

Holiday Cookies!
Arielle and I spent the past two days baking and eating way too many holiday cookies. First, I made my annual pizzelle’s and no bake cookies and then I had to try two different recipes I found on Pinterest. The first was for a delicious looking toffee crunch bar covered in chocolate. Saltine Cracker Toffee from The Girl Who Ate Everything. Arielle and I were worried at first. How could a recipe so easy turn out good? Oh, it was yummy! What’s not to love about toffee spread over crackers with chocolate chips melting on top? Next, Arielle made snickerdoodles with a Rolo center from Rachel Schultz’s blog. This recipe took a little more time…

Family
Our family is all together!! Standing in the airport waiting for Arielle to arrive was a heartwarming experience. There were many of us waiting for loved ones. I watched as people laughed and hugged one another. I think the airport rivaled Disney World as being the happiest place on earth. We all climbed into the car and headed for the mall. We had three hours before our concert. Since Kai’s birthday was the next day Arielle decided to help him pick out a new wardrobe. I have no idea how my kids came to care about fashion. Eric and I are still wearing clothes from the 90’s. I tried to convince them…

My Thoughts Are With The Parents In Connecticut
Today, I finished my two and half month commitment to working full-time in a third grade classroom. I picked up Kai from high school and our conversation on the way home turned to cell phones and school. Most schools have a no cell phone rule but teachers know that if kids are allowed to listen to music while they work it creates a more peaceful environment. Kai added that students can add homework and reminders on their phone which they are more likely to keep track of than notebook paper. Anyway, our discussion was about schools embracing technology instead of banning it. Then I added something about how handy cell phones would be in…
