Halloween Owl Cookies
I saw a picture of an owl cookie on Pinterest which immediately made me think of Ms. Yolen’s picture book. I decided to give the cookies a try. I wanted to make it as easy as possible in case any teachers wanted to grab Jane Yolen’s OWL MOON, read it to their class and then offer some delicious owl cookies. While my cookies aren’t as pretty as the Pinterest picture they’re still fun to look at. And I added a candy corn beak istead of an almond because I know many classrooms have students with nut allergies. Ingredients: 1 bag of M&M’s 1 bag of candy corn 1 package of sugar cookie dough Step 1: Cut…

Chocolate + Peanut Butter + Cream Cheese + Butterfinger = Awesome Cake!
Chocolate-peanut butter cake with cream cheese frosting and topped with Butterfinger. Football season in our house has its advantages. Eric loves to watch football but has trouble sitting still. His solution is to either vacuum and mop the downstairs or cook while the game is on. It’s a win-win situation for our marriage. I’ll put up with the noise of the TV because I know I’m either going to enjoy a tasty treat or be able to walk barefoot on our living room floor. This cake was last weekend’s creation. Oh my goodness! Incredible! It’s so rich Eric and I had to share a slice. Here’s the printable recipe: epicurious Be sure to…

Five Life Lessons from a Treadmill
Even when my mind screams no, I don’t want to run I just have to put one foot in front of the other until I feel better. Keep going! When I look up at the TV’s and see reality shows or the news I’m a lot less motivated than when I watch athletes or ads for fitness videos. Surround myself with positive influences. When someone runs next to me I work a little harder. Sharing similar goals with another person motivates me. If I listen to the same music every day I get bored and don’t push myself. However, just one funky holiday song in September (Glee Christmas album-All I want…

This Sucks!
I called my friend yesterday in a panic. “What should I do? What would you do? Arielle called and she’s sick. She went to the clinic twice, received antibiotics and IV fluids. I should hop on a plane–right?” My friend knows me well. “What does Eric think?” “Oh Eric, well he thinks we should tell her to go see a doctor. But she needs me. You would go–right? I know you would go.” My friend is my children’s Godmother. I’m not catholic but it’s my way of saying you’re their second mother. If anything should happen to me, it’s all on you. She’s known Arielle since she was three and…

How Does She Do That? Interview With An Illustrator
I Can’t Hear You! I Can’t See You. By Sandra Horn and Illustrations by Muza Ulasowski I first saw Muza’s illustrations on uTales. I was blown away! Look at those penguins and the beautiful colors in the water. Then I found The Sea Cat Dreams. Wow! I had to reach out and meet the woman behind these amazing illustrations. Bonus, she lives in Australia! How cool is that? I’ve always wanted to go to Australia. I discovered not only is Muza a talented illustrator but she’s also a mom with a big heart. She belongs to The Wantz Committee, an organization that fundraises to help charities. I decided to get my Oprah on and do my…
