Graduation Craziness
My head is pounding, my heart is full, my body is exhausted, and I’m scared to go grocery shopping. Because if I go grocery shopping I’ll see moms with little kids and I’ll start crying. My little kid is graduating high school. I spent the past three days with Arielle and her friends at the Florida State Track Meet and had the greatest time. All the while thinking… this is it. First, I’d like to thank the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA), Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF), The Reeve Foundation, JB, LP, ET (Arielle’s coaches and Athletic Director) and all my Facebook friends for helping to add Adaptive Sports to the FHSAA track program.…

Apple Butter Cupcakes
I grew up in Lancaster County, PA where apple butter was in everyone’s refrigerator. Apple butter and Turkey Hill sweet tea. When I found this in my grandmother’s recipe box I had to try them. I’m glad I did because… oh, are they scrumptious! I was going to add a caramel topping but Eric made a face. He wanted me to stick with my original idea of using a streusel topping. I’m sure I could have made my own streusel but then I found a box mix. Why not? Ready made streusel equals quick and easy which is perfect when your May calendar looks like there’s no time to breathe. First, preheat the oven to…

Marriage Advice
My sister recently tied the knot. Being the much older sibling that I am and having been in a relationship with the same man for twenty-two years, married for sixteen, I thought I should offer some marriage advice. Then I thought, why stop at just me – why not ask other women who have been married for many years what advice they would give? And that’s exactly what I did. The following passages are brilliant words of wisdom on marriage. Me: Understand that as with all relationships marriage takes effort. Like a plant that will wilt without love and caring, so will a marriage. When you get mad it’s best to walk…

FacingDisability.com: A new way to cope with Spinal Cord Injury
I’d like to introduce Ms. Anne Hambleton and a brilliant new website called FacingDisability.com. I remember right after Arielle’s accident I felt completely lost. I didn’t know what a spinal cord injury was or how it was going to affect our lives. A resource like this would have been extremely helpful eight years ago. Please add this post to your favorites or share it on Facebook. The more people that know help is out there – the better. – KD Rausin A spinal cord injury affects the entire family. It can seem like no one understands their new situation and the path of recovery that lies ahead. That’s why the Hill…

The Truth About Me
My mind is intense. I have the ability to focus on something I want and hold onto the focus for years if necessary in order to achieve my goal. My husband and kids will tell you it’s an exhausting trait to live with because often my focus can lead to daily discussions on how I’m reaching my goal or not reaching my goal and going to try harder. Many times Eric has been on the receiving end of my focus and even though he has had the ability to put up a good fight on the other side of the tug-of-war rope I have come out victorious on many occasions. Not all thank goodness, but…

Friday Funny
I laughed and laughed when I saw this video. As I sit here typing I have a running list in my mind of all the tasks I should accomplish today. The dogs need baths, the bathrooms are a mess, I have emails to answer, dishes, laundry, vacuuming, editing and a track meet. Sometimes the mere thought of just one of those responsibilities makes me want to throw myself on the floor and cry “I can’t do it!” (Dog washing and bathrooms:() Watching this little girl makes me realize it’s all in my mind. Of course I can! Happy Friday:) I found this video over at Dan Pearce’s single dad laughing.…
