Cute Easter Treat
Cute Easter Treat: No Bake-Ums Cookie Nests with Chocolate Eggs My grandmother’s recipe for no bake cookies has been one of my all time favorite recipes. They’re so good Kai has learned to make them. They also are great thank you gifts. One of Arielle’s teachers always gets excited when she brings him “no bake-ums.” Chocolate and peanut butter are synonymous with Easter goodies. I was going to make chocolate peanut butter eggs but then remembered my favorite cookie. It turns out they’re quite malleable and can be shaped into a nest or an egg. I spent the evening experimenting and this is what I came up with. I already posted the recipe for the…

Filming a Commercial
I love my kids and I love to travel so when you put them both together it’s better than eating a banana split on the beach in Maui. Someone was kind enough to mention Arielle’s name to Universal Casting in Miami who was kind enough to call us and ask if Arielle would be interested in filming a commercial for Citibank. Next thing I knew we were driving across Alligator Alley en route to one of the most beautiful hotels I have ever seen. And if that wasn’t great enough there was a Cheesecake Factory right across the street. Bonus! If you go to Miami give it a try. It’s called the Mayfair Hotel…

Follow Your Passion
With Arielle getting ready to leave for college I know that our family dynamics will change. My life will be filled with conversations about computer games, movies with explosions and YouTube videos that will leave me wondering why Eric and Kai are laughing so hard soda is spewing out their noses. Often I feel like an outsider looking into their world and wondering how I can fit in. I simply don’t enjoy participating in many of the activities they find entertaining. Spending hours in Guitar Center playing every instrument is as torturous for me as shopping in Macy’s is for them. While I’m happy they are bonding I’m still always on the…

The Hunger Games Premiere Party
If you give a mouse a cookie it’s nothing compared to giving a teenager a camera. Arielle had some friends over for a spaghetti dinner before the midnight showing of The Hunger Games. I gave her my camera and told her to take some pictures for the blog. I had planned on writing a nice short piece about seniors graduating and making memories with the last few weeks of school they had left. Something sentimental and heartwarming. That’s what I had in mind… and then I saw the pictures. Here’s one picture with everyone smiling. Guess who took it? Yep, me. Right before I disappeared to fold laundry. What a wonderful group of teens. After…

Easter Cookie Nests
Of course I had to try making my pots of gold into Easter baskets. When I couldn’t get any kind of candy basket handle to stay up for more than five seconds I dubbed them nests. Let me know if you try these and find something that works. Possibly if the nests/baskets were dipped in chocolate then the chocolate would hold the handle in place… once it dries. That would mean having a lot of patience which I tend to have for writing novels but not cooking. They’re a fun dessert for a party or an economical treat for a classroom of students. Teachers, two books that would go along with the theme of…

Swimming with Cell Phones
“Those who don’t believe in magic will never find it.” Roald Dahl (1916-1990) I believe that besides teaching my kids to have empathy, be kind, get good grades and learn disciplined working habits I must also teach them to always look for the magic in life. Any parent that has more than one child is aware of how different siblings can be. Siblings that are raised with the same parent or two parents can have very unique personalities. I have one child that is naturally very adventurous, thrives in a crowd, hates being at home for more than one day and enjoys trying any new food as long as it’s…
