    Apple Pie With Zest

I cheated on this post. Eric made the pie and took the pictures. I think I was at the gym while he spent the afternoon in the kitchen. It works for us. I get to be out of the house but still in my own world, running on the treadmill to my favorite tunes, and he gets to watch football all afternoon while he cooks. I have issues with the noise of TV for hours… and hours. Peace-Ruiner, however, loves noise. Here’s his delicious pie recipe and pictures. Apple Pie – New Fashioned from Epicurious.com. Ingredients: 1 15-Ounce package of Pie Crusts – Let sit at room temp. 15 min. 2 1/4 Pounds…

    Ornaments or Auto Air Fresheners?

This post contains several ideas for an ornament recipe I found on Martha Stewart’s holiday website. The ornaments have a strong cinnamon smell and can be used to decorate a Christmas tree or as a car air freshener to keep you in the holiday spirit as you shop. Teachers, these ornaments are easy and inexpensive to make. If you are looking for a project that will include all of your students regardless of religion – keep reading… Snowflake Bentley by Jacqueline Briggs Martin and illustrated by Mary Azarian is the story of a man who captured beautiful photographs of snowflakes. Wilson A. Bentley was the first to discover that no two snowflakes are alike. (A wonderful lesson for…

    Happy Thanksgiving!

Of course I am thankful for my family and friends but that’s too cliché. Here are some other things I’m thankful for. Thankful For List: Cameras – Taking pictures so when I’m old I can look back and say “Wow, look how young I looked – what happened?” … Okay, maybe not cameras. Chocolate – There’s nothing quite like the taste of chocolate. Chocolate brownies, chocolate strawberries, chocolate Toblerone, hot chocolate. I’d eat it every day if I could. But then I’d get cavities and gain ten pounds and have that sinking feeling of trying to zip up my jeans and realizing that no amount of jumping up and down or…

    More Awesome Pumpkin Dishes!

Warning! Eat before reading this post. It could cause some serious hunger pangs. I asked Johnny Depp what he put into his chili and he rattled off the following ingredients. Beer (Corona), Morning Star crumbles, poblano chile, chipolte chile, oregano, pumpkin, onion, fresh tomato and an avacado and celantro garnish. The sour cream on top was a mixture of sour cream and pumpkin. I don’t think he used a recipe he just started mixing. I do know that I happened to see him at a hockey game the night before and he had no idea what he was making. Then he served all of us this amazing dish. Ashton made a pumpkin shrimp brushetta.…

Celebrity Iron Chef III – Pumpkin

Back in July I wrote about our Celebrity Iron Chef night. The secret ingredient was peaches and each husband (celebrity) was challenged to create an appetizer, entrée and dessert that included peaches. The wives were the judges. Well, by the end of the evening, the wives were so full of delicious peachy treats that one of us (not me) stepped out for some fresh air and took to lying in the driveway just to stretch her stomach. We never got around to judging. But while we sat around my friend K.’s beautiful table… We discussed who would host the next Celebrity Iron Chef night. I must have had a little too much wine because I volunteered. Then I…
