Graduation Craziness – Florida State Track Meet

Part Two. If you missed Part 2… Click Here. The next day we drove to the University of North Florida track. Arielle threw shot put and took first place. I was excited to use my new camera to take pictures and I stood out in the Florida sun snapping away. And…. learned a very important lesson. When track coaches say to keep hydrated because it’s ninety degrees outside… listen to them. All the teens did. Unfortunately, I didn’t. I learned something else too. Heat exhaustion can sneak up on you quick. One minute I had my camera ready to take a picture of Arielle getting her medal and the next I was sitting…

    Graduation Craziness

My head is pounding, my heart is full, my body is exhausted, and I’m scared to go grocery shopping. Because if I go grocery shopping I’ll see moms with little kids and I’ll start crying. My little kid is graduating high school. I spent the past three days with Arielle and her friends at the Florida State Track Meet and had the greatest time. All the while thinking… this is it. First, I’d like to thank the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA), Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF), The Reeve Foundation, JB, LP, ET (Arielle’s coaches and Athletic Director) and all my Facebook friends for helping to add Adaptive Sports to the FHSAA track program.…

    The Truth About Me

My mind is intense. I have the ability to focus on something I want and hold onto the focus for years if necessary in order to achieve my goal. My husband and kids will tell you it’s an exhausting trait to live with because often my focus can lead to daily discussions on how I’m reaching my goal or not reaching my goal and going to try harder. Many times Eric has been on the receiving end of my focus and even though he has had the ability to put up a good fight on the other side of the tug-of-war rope I have come out victorious on many occasions. Not all thank goodness, but…

    Friday Funny

I laughed and laughed when I saw this video. As I sit here typing I have a running list in my mind of all the tasks I should accomplish today. The dogs need baths, the bathrooms are a mess, I have emails to answer, dishes, laundry, vacuuming, editing and a track meet. Sometimes the mere thought of just one of those responsibilities makes me want to throw myself on the floor and cry “I can’t do it!” (Dog washing and bathrooms:() Watching this little girl makes me realize it’s all in my mind. Of course I can! Happy Friday:) I found this video over at Dan Pearce’s single dad laughing.…

    Can You See Them?

Can you see how they’ve grown into young adults? Hear how he plays the piano and see how her smile lights up a room. When you knew them she talked incessantly. Still does. He blazed his own path. Still does. Remember when they would sing carols for you and all your friends. She on the violin and him with all his faces making the audience laugh. Can you see them now? Track, musicals, honor roll, steel drums, jazz band and friends filling our home laughing and teasing one another. He’s taller than me. She’s driving. Did you know you only had a short time with them? Did you think about it? I…

    The Bubble Rule

We sat in the waiting room. Me and a red-headed stranger. It was clear from our stiff shoulders and crossed arms that both of us were having trouble relaxing. Yet, we were surrounded by the soft sounds of a flute and the gentle dripping of a waterfall. The room was serene – perfect. We joked about how we never “do this.” It was almost like we were apologizing to each other for the fact that we were sitting at a spa waiting to be pampered. My name was called and in I went for my second facial ever in my life. Eric had bought me the gift certificate last May and…
