Wheelchair Road Racing
This year is a year of reflection for me because Arielle will leave for college in 26 short weeks. Some days I feel nothing and can easily utter the words, “Yep, she’s going to Illinois for college.” (Denial) Other days the weight on my heart is so heavy it feels as though the words are smothered with sadness and won’t come out. For the past six years Arielle has completed the Edison Festival of Light 5K. It’s one of the most popular races in our area. Thousands of people line the streets of Ft. Myers to cheer on the runners and then watch the parade. It has always been one…

Add rest to your to-do list
I have this terrible habit of creating long “to do” lists in my mind. They’re never realistic. I seem to have no sense of time just an endless list that goes something like this. Today I’m going to write a blog post, do three loads of laundry, grocery shop, workout, fold all the laundry, pay the bills and vacuum the downstairs. Oh and drive to drum lesson by six. Cook dinner, do the dishes and if I’m teaching the next day, organize all my materials. I never calculate the amount of time each job will take. I simply tell myself what I’m going to accomplish. I set myself up to…

No Theme Sunday
Today’s theme is all about the recent events in my life. In other words there really is no theme throughout the post. My editor husband is going to have a fit but he’s at spin class right now and won’t see this until later today. I’m breaking the rules. I’m such a rebel. It probably has something to do with the fact that I went to bike night and line danced. Bike night as in the kind with loud pipes not squeaky horns. And lined danced as in bumped into people and pretended I knew what I was doing. Having teens means not having to get a babysitter. Eric and…

Chocolate Covered Pretzels
What’s better than Norman Love Chocolates? Not these. But I can say they’re much easier to make and a close second. My Halloween chocolate covered pretzels were a hit with the high school crowd so I decided to experiment for Valentine’s Day. I was very pleased with the results. The chocolate covered peanut butter pretzels shown above were Eric’s favorite. Basically all you need are pretzels, chocolate, parchment paper, candy decorations and creativity. It’s really easy. Melt the chocolate in the microwave and spoon it over the pretzels. Then decorate. One box of Bakers Semi – Sweet chocolate will be more than enough for one bag of pretzel sticks. (About 24 sticks)…

Pain in the Butt
It’s Sunday, post day, and I’m sitting here in pain. It’s a good pain. The kind that comes after a difficult workout at the gym. I can feel my muscles building as I type. And since Tony and I worked our legs and butt, I don’t want to get up out of this chair. There’s a saying writers use to motivate each other, butt in chair. Now, I have the perfect solution to make that happen easily. Simply spend two hours in the gym doing everything from squats to calf raises. Your butt will be quite happy to stay in the chair. Wait, shouldn’t the saying be butt on chair?…
