Zen And The Art Of Lawn Maintenance

I read the phrase; the grass isn’t greener on the other side, it’s greener where you water it. This hit home for me. It was an ah-ha moment. What we give our attention to flourishes; whether it’s parenting, marriage, our career, or our friendships.

Attention is the water that nourishes the grass. If we focus on just one area of our life and give it all of our attention, using up all our resources, there is nothing left for the others. If we spread ourselves too thin and water an entire field, each area only receives a few drops.

We must prioritize our lives and determine where to focus our attention to achieve the most success. Some areas of our lives may need watering every day while others only once or twice a week. We have the opportunity to choose where our grass will be greener. If we don’t choose, life will choose for us until one day; we could be standing in front of a field with only one small patch of green. In other words, our lives are our responsibility. We must decide what is most important to us and put effort into every aspect of our lives that hold meaning. I believe if we do this, one day when we look back, we’ll see fields of green, maybe even some flowers and we’ll know that we lived our best life because we paid attention.
