Wisdom Wednesday: Music

Music is my life, it is a refection of what I go through. Lenny Kravitz

It’s amazing how a song can immediately lift my spirit or take me back in time to when I spent mornings in front of the mirror with a curling iron and spray seeing just how big my hair could be. However, music has always been in the background of my life. I knew what I liked and didn’t like but never gave much thought to the art itself. Now, that my son, Kai, spends hours creating and playing his music I’m curious about the process of writing songs. Where do they come from? How does he know which notes to play?

Raising a son who has always been fiercely independent and passionate I can see how those two qualities are necessary for him as an artist. He must be able to feel the emotions in life in order to express them through music and he must be independent enough to have the courage to create and play his songs for others. He tells me he hears music all the time. It’s always there as if it is a part of him. Musicians are incredible artists. They capture emotions, pour them into a series of notes and make us feel the sorrow or joy in life. Amazing!

Here is a song that always brought me joy. I’m posting it for my friend J. who just became a dad. Congrats!

Music washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life. Berthold Auerbach

Since I brought up my 80’s hair I had to include this video.

There is something about Mario Frangoulis’s voice that makes me want to stop whatever I’m doing and listen. Here he sings with Justin Hayward. It’s absolutely beautiful! “I breathe in the silence of your thoughts. Some day you’ll be all that you hope for.” Justin Hayward
