Author Interview – Tim Flanagan
Introducing one of the most motivated authors I’ve ever met. Well, technically we’ve only met online. He lives across the pond. Tim’s new book The Curious Disappearance of Professor Brown (A Lawrence Pinkley Mystery) is a hit with teens! Check out his awesome blog and Author’s Marketing website. Author Interview – Tim Flanagan What books did you enjoy reading when you were growing up? I think a lot of things that influenced me as a writer stem from early in my life. I read loads of books as a child. When I was a teenager, I went through a phase of reading all 76 Agatha Christie books! I liked…

10 Reasons I’m thankful for Buddy
10 Reasons I’m Thankful for Buddy Buddy, our beautiful 150 pound, six year-old baby, is not doing well. What we thought were kidney stones is a tumor in his prostate. Eric and I sat listening to the veterinarian talk of malignant tumors and options and all I could think about were the kidney stones we came to have removed. Options. We are taking it day by day. Buddy’s home on his favorite bed. He’s filled with medication. Tomorrow he will spend Thanksgiving with his family. Friday we will see if chemo is one of our options. I want more time with him. I want the tumor to shrink but I must weigh my wants against Buddy’s…

Catching Fire and Helping Children
Catching Fire and Helping Children I was watching Catching Fire with my family. In the scene where Katniss and Peeta are giving a speech to District 11 they’re told to read their speeches from prepared cards. Peeta looks at his card and begins to read as the crowd stands emotionless, then he puts down the card and speaks from his heart. When he does he and Katniss inspire the crowd. Sitting in the theatre it suddenly occurred to me that writing is the same. If I throw away everything that is on the surface and dig deep, connections are made. For adults it takes courage to go deep and slice through the layers…

I’m Stressed Therefore I’m Important
I’m Stressed Therefore I’m Important This is a common belief in our society. The busier you are the more activities you have to fill your life and the more hours you spend at work equals your value in the eyes of others and yourself. The problem is when you don’t enjoy your work or you don’t enjoy having every second of your life scheduled then suddenly you’re sick, stressed and unable to find the peace in life. Back in 2007 I thought something was wrong with me because I couldn’t handle having a full-time job, taking care of my kids, my home, and being the mom I wanted to be. I’d snap at my kids or…

Why We Do What We Do
“The reason we grow is so we have something to give of value.” Tony Robbins Why We Do What We Do Thank you so very much for reading and sharing my last post. I heard from strangers and many people I hadn’t talked to in years. Apparently, there were tears. I hope they were inspirational tears. When I saw the stats on readers for my post about the accident I was blown away! My next thought was….now what? As much as I love my desserts, writing about chocolate chip cookies stuffed with Oreo’s wasn’t going to be a fitting follow-up. I thought I should just take a break and work on my young adult (YA)…

Remembering The Accident That Changed Our Lives
Remembering The Accident That Changed Our Lives The other day I was speaking to my daughter, Arielle, on the phone. It was one of our marathon conversations, which I love. I wasn’t sure whether or not to bring up the significance of this Thanksgiving. My husband, Eric, told me mentioning it might upset her, but I had a feeling it was already on her mind. I was right. When I asked if she was OK with me writing about the ten-year anniversary of the accident she told me she too had planned to blog about it. She said not to worry because our posts would be different–go ahead and write. The Call Just as memories…
