    Love Is

Love is speaking kindly to yourself when you put on a bathing suit. Love is giving yourself permission to sit and read, bake, or create when the to-do list is crushing your spirit. Love is reconnecting with a childhood friend who knew you when. Love is the laughter of littles as you read them a story. Love is seeing the person who needs help and helping. Love is the smell of blueberry pancakes on a Sunday morning. Love is the cat that rubs against your legs or sits beside you. Love is in the words, how was your day? Love is letting go of control. Love is gazing up at…

Three Things I’ve Learned About Gratitude

When my kids were little, we attended lots of activities. There were piano lessons, basketball, soccer, tee ball, trips to the library, zoo, museum, birthday parties, and many play dates with friends. Because we lived in the land of sunshine rare was the day we stayed home. I remember as a young mom driving home after afternoon outings with my children, often feeling exhausted in need of alone time, stressed over what I’d make for dinner, and listening to them bicker or complain. Thanksgiving Day Changed My Life

I woke up in 2003 Before Thanksgiving Day 2003 I had been asleep, going through the rise and fall of daily life like waves on an ocean. I believed the key was to make my children’s lives better than my own and to create the fairy tale, the one with the white picket fence, big house, and happy family. Wisdom Wednesday: Gratitude

Welcome to my Wisdom Wednesday post: Gratitude “We can only be said to be alive in those moments when our hearts are conscious of our treasures.” Thornton Wilder         I really like this quote because Mr. Wilder uses the words: in those moments. He is saying that the only time we are truly living is in the moments that we recognize our treasures. He’s not simply telling us to be thankful for each day. He’s telling us to see the beautiful moments in each day. Daily life can be so busy we go through the motions of completing task after task without ever recognizing the miracles that are…

    Are You Enough?

Vulnerability – (adj.) Capable of being hurt or wounded. Possibly the best way to know exactly what you want in life is to know exactly what you do not want in life. Three and half years ago I left my job as an elementary school teacher to spend more time with my family and more time writing. I remember the sudden sense of relief and freedom I felt when my schedule opened up. If I wanted to, I could stop and watch a osprey teach her baby to fly, go for walks with my son, spend an hour chatting with my daughter or drive to the store in the middle of…
