    A Seven Day Journey

    My life changed in seven days. I packed my bags and flew to Martha’s Vineyard. I was nervous. Meeting new people has always brought me a great deal of anxiety.  I knocked on the front door of The Noepe Center for Literary Arts knowing I had arrived later than the rest of the writers. The woman who answered was also from Florida, a kindred spirit. Before I opened my suitcase to unpack, two more attendees invited me to dinner. I breathed. I knew it was going to be a special week.

    The Cavalry is Not Coming

    One night while trying to become less of a Twitter twit I stumbled across a video of Mark Duplass’s keynote speech at SXSW. I thought it was fabulous, and ended up watching the entire speech even though I’m not interested in becoming a filmmaker. The speech was about how the cavalry is not coming. He encouraged filmmakers to start making films with whatever they had. No excuses, just get to work. I thought this was also a great lesson for writers.     Believing In Success

    What a wonderful book launch week! I was overwhelmed with gratitude from everyone’s support. Reading to all the kids was the highlight of my week. It’s been an emotional two weeks between the race and the book release. Both life events have taught me the importance of working hard towards a goal and believing in myself.
